Jay is a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School where he teaches Negotiation Workshop. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business where he teaches Collaboration, Conflict, and Negotiation.
For over a decade, he was an award-winning Course Lecturer at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, Montréal, Canada, where he taught Negotiation and Conflict Resolution for the MBA and BCom programs. Jay created the course, Business Fundamentals for Musicians for the Schulich School of Music at McGill. He’s conducted seminars and workshops on Contract Negotiations and Conflict Resolution for McGill’s Executive Institute and McGill’s School of Continuing Studies. Beyond North America, he has lectured in Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and on a repeated basis at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. He also has an article on the topic of power in negotiations published by The Harvard Business Review.
Jay’s consulting and teaching are largely informed by his extensive management experience as well as his collaborative efforts with management scholars on research examining employee satisfaction, retention, DEI, organizational culture, managing inclusive work forces, and employee selection. He is often called upon to assist managers with conflict management and developing core competencies of developing talent within diverse workplace settings.
Jay has counseled and represented the United States Senate offices in employment law matters and researched the impact of provisions of the U.S. Constitution on workplace policy. Before working for the Senate, Jay worked in New York City for Proskauer Rose LLP, one of the largest U.S. law firms, with a national reputation for its Labor and Employment practice. While at Proskauer, Jay investigated charges of discrimination on behalf of private and public sector clients. He counseled human resource managers and senior executives on a broad range of labor and employment issues. Prior to his work as a lawyer, Jay was an award-winning producer at WQXR radio in New York City.
Jay holds a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Brass Performance from Boston University.
